Shifter issue

I noticed last season that the shifter on my Wellcraft 192 Classic became a bit stiff and wasn't as smooth as I remember. An advice I got was to clean it and adjust it to get it back to operating as it once did. Is this true or should I replace the whole thing? If I can do this my self without replacing, how do I get it out or is there another trick to this?

Usually, stiffness in boat shifters comes from worn out or dirty shift cables. to check, you can try to disconnect the shift cable from the engine's shift arm. Once it's disconnected, try moving the shifter handle. if the shifter handle becomes smooth, then the problem is likely the cable itself but if it is still stiff, then the problem is likely inside the shifter control box at the helm.

If it's the cable, sometimes you can lubricate them. but the best fix for a truly stiff cable is replacement. hope this helps!

Cleaning and lubricating the control and checking cable adjustments can definitely help like what cindy said above, and you might not need to replace anything. You can access the shifter by removing the mounting screws and gently pulling it out to inspect the mechanism and cables. If the cables are binding or cracked, they might need replacing, but try cleaning and lubing everything first

Thanks guys, i will try to lubricate first and fingers crossed i won't need to replace the cables. Just in case i need to replace the cables, did you happen to know where can i find replacements?
